Hotel Miranda, Hydra

A hotel in Hydra that takes you back in time

Like a moment frozen in time, Hotel Miranda has, for over 60 years, preserved the charm and grandeur of 19th-century Hydra.

Built in 1810, just five minutes from the harbour on the road to Kala Pigadia, it is a striking example of traditional Hydriote architecture.
Stone, wood, colour, and a unique aura bring the island’s history to life in every corner of the hotel.

As you walk up the main cobbled lane, you will see to your right a great anchor from an old Hydriote fishing boat.Climb a few steps, open the old wooden door with its distinctive bronze handle, and step into the heart of this historic captain’s house — a sunlit courtyard filled with bougainvillaea, lemon and orange trees, lavender, and other Mediterranean flowers and plants.

The feeling is instantly familiar, as though you are returning to the home of a beloved family friend.

We look forward to welcoming you,

The island of Hydra

A rocky island crowned with 18th- and 19th-century mansions, Hydra is a heroic land that later became a haven for artists in the 20th century — a living museum beneath the Aegean sun.

Cobbled streets, terracotta rooftops, flowers sprouting through the rocks, seaside promenades, hidden squares, and historic monasteries create a unique and atmospheric tapestry of culture and elegance.

From the picturesque harbour cafés to secret paths leading to untouched beaches, Hydra enchants with its simplicity, grace, and timeless, unpretentious beauty.

Your Stay in Hydra

Over 200 years of history

Originally built as a captain’s house in 1810, Miranda was lovingly redeveloped into a hotel by the Sofianos family. For over six decades, it has hosted travellers seeking an authentic experience in Hydra.

A cherished hideaway for Panagiotis Tetsis, Melina Mercouri, Jules Dassin, and many other prominent figures, Hotel Miranda has long been a vibrant cultural hub — hosting art exhibitions, concerts, and events as part of its small but flourishing gallery.

The works of celebrated Greek artists converse with the hotel’s stone walls, its visitors, and its energy, creating a rare harmony of aesthetics and history.

All 14 rooms of the hotel are individually decorated with period furnishings, exuding discreet luxury and a romantic charm reminiscent of another era.

Here, time flows differently. With its inspiring atmosphere and enchanting views, Hotel Miranda invites you to feel, to dream, and to connect with the immortal soul of Hydra.
